Why Google needs a Steve Jobs

Why Google needs a Steve Jobs

One of the first things that comes to mind when you think about apple is Steve Jobs. For some people that spit – second connection in the brain happens even before the connection apple – fruit is being made.

Have you ever thought about that? Would Apple be Apple without a Steve Jobs pulling the strings for all those years?

Jobs was a control freak, a know-it-all, but above anything a visionary pur sang. He had a way of predicting the near future and if his prediction didn’t come true, he made it come true.

‘In Control’. He used to think about the round edges a phone or tablet, the materials that were used, the design of the user interfaces that were being used.

No tech work, oh no. Apple is designed by design-people. It’s how some people see a car. “If I want to drive a car I don’t have to know  how the engine works, all I need to know is how to drive it”. You can’t blame people for seeking that convenience.

You don’t have to be a writer to appreciate a good book.

In his last year Jobs looked like shit. I know, he was very sick and died on October 5th – 2011. Gone, but not forgotten. In fact he had the future set out for Apple. Even dead he’s of use.

People love underdogs that are winners. People love someone they can relate to, People love men wearing turtle necks and jeans in stead of the criminal grey of the ‘upper class’. To hell with them!

Google has Larry Page. The perfect son in law.

To the average internet user the CEO of Google could have been anyone. People don’t know him. Have never seen him, don’t know how he looks. Colorless. No Karma.

Google needs a ‘Steve Jobs’. Our Steve, but alive. Someone that has the guts to say “Feck it, let’s change our logo, people must be getting sick and tired of those colors, that look like kindergarten – lego’s. Let’s make something with gradient colors and matching schemes. And – what the hell – with rounded edges, we must have rounded edges.”.

They need a Larry Page that does not allow for wringing the sorry little necks of millions of bloggers by ever changing ‘score algorithms’, panda and penguin changes that seem to affect all sites except the major company sites. What will be the next update? Zebra, that does not allow for free back – linking anymore? You never know!

Oh that’s where the money comes from. Advertisers. Right. I forgot. Sorry, Mr. Page.

Happy Jobs’ing

    Hey Jan,

Though I dislike the way Apple controls stuff, I like Steve for his guts and entrepreneurship( that is allowed ? ;) ).
I think Google is having a serious business problem as its flagship project G+ is not making huge dent in social space ( other than for geeks). I think Google is good at innovation and that is where they need to concentrate.
Also their algo changes ( as you mentioned ) are causing a lot of heartburn. I hope they come out of it. Also that they should not bad mouth poor animals lol.

    • Hi Ashvini,
That was the point I was trying to get through. Like it or not, Google is missing out ‘something’ – i.e. charisma. Apple is just another brand name. It’s the same as programmers fighting the eternal wars over ‘MY programming language is the best’ while is essence they’re doing the exact same. No matter what language you prefer, it doesn’t make you a better person. Or Lemmings… ;) . Thanks for the input, Ashvini!

    Hi Jan,

Oops I’m wondering why Microsoft not mentioned here ;) Steve did his job with Apple and always the source of innovation at Apple. Anyway he got few management problems with Apple too, but Bill Gates the businessman. I think that’s where he tend to fail. Love the concepts of his creativity and innovation. Plus, organization. He contributed in every way when building Mac and thought of each aspect from font designing to complete Mac.

Google ruling with advertising and here people play by rules. Defining algorithms everyday. No Steve Jpbs there but a large network. Anyway I think we don’t need to worry about Penguins or Zeebras (As you call ;) LOL). We better on our way by knowing all rules. However Google driveless car, new images search (Image search by image instead of text), Google glasses, Android are admirable too. But no… I hear more of Matt Cutts than Larry Page ;)

Google is now stepping into mobile with their products and as you see on tech, nowaday they are developing all beta apps in mobile platform. Will Zuckerberg can be next Steve Jobs? ;)

    Cheers…

    • Hi Mayura,
Microsoft has one big disadvantage. Bill is still alive. Just kidding. It seems to me that a person only can reach ‘God-like’ status after he’s ‘gone to greener pastures’. Lol. Every big company has advantages and disadvantages. I’m not saying Apple is ‘better’. Heck.. I’m using Microsoft.
I don’t know. I have been around for a few years, but the companies seem to forget that they exist because ‘we’ (The Customers) let them. That’s why Facebook has always boasted about the fact that ‘FaceBook will always for free’…
In reality ‘we’ are the product they are selling. Millions of free buyers on the market. The money Facebook makes is what companies pay Facebook to let US buy products. We ARE the commodity now. The network with the biggest number of aspiring customers will win the battle… On the other hand – if it’s for free I’m going to use it, because it does not get any cheaper that that! ;)
