You are probably a blogger if you are reading this. I mean, how many people write articles and post them on the Internet AND are interested in “YOUR favorite Post”. Maybe you are making a living blogging or maybe you are just doing it for fun – or something in between. There must be a reason why you blog. Just wanting to write, maybe out of vanity? Who knows.
The State of The Blogosphere
Technorati documents in – what they call “The state of the Blogospere” – how the blogging community operates, worldwide.
From their figures you can determine the percentage of bloggers that “Do like you do” and it seems that the ‘hobby bloggers’ make up for around 60% of the total number of active bloggers.
If you break down the numbers it becomes clear that you are not alone, blogging your little heart out. There are more like us. Around 181 million people worldwide are active bloggers.
This document also breaks down the numbers on the eternal question “Why do you blog” and many other interesting blog related subjects.
There might never be a good answer to the “why do you blog” question. I have read many posts about this subject and I never found my own “why”.
Maybe just because I like to blog? And being the little narcissistic person that I am? Hell if I know. I just like to do what I’m doing – it relaxes me and gives me something better to do then watching re-runs of ‘Golden Girls’ on TV… Go, Sophia!
I write the bestest posts, so there!
Of course I don’t, but I like to think I do.
I even have a ‘favorite post’ I wrote: “Your social network profile is like a resume“. I think it was my best post so far. Why do I think it is?
- I posted that post on September 23rd 2012 and got 21 responses (interactions) on it.
- The page was visited by 3261 unique visitors.
- I liked writing it. Maybe helping some people out making their on-line profile rock?
So I liked the interaction and the number of page views it got over the period of five months. I like people to read my posts and I want to interact with them. Hey! So maybe this is my why?
If you are an entrepreneur YOUR best post is the post that brought you a great number of new clients for your business – if you are a writer your best post would be the post that lead to selling a lot of copies of your newest novel.
Discover YOUR why!
I think, that by analyzing YOUR favorite post on YOUR blog, you will get an idea why you really blog.
Are you in it for the attention? The money? The readers? Trying to help people out with lending them a hand setting up their blog? Protecting the migration grounds of the blue nosed flee?
Hey,
I told you about my favorite and my why.
It’s YOUR turn. Share your favorite post and the story and / or reason behind it. I am curious. Are you?

My favorite post is what my readers enjoy reading. That may sound PC or cliche’ but it is the truth because I enjoy people reading what I have to say.
I love writing and the more people read or comment on my material is a vote for or against what I wrote. Writing articles takes time and when people show you some love for putting that material together, it gets me excited.

Hi Michael,
That sounds like a good enough reason to me! Interacting is part of the fun and builds a strong Social Network. From there you build lasting relationships with bloggers and / or people that like to read what you have to say and are telling you how they feel about that.
Positive or negative comments? It’s all good. You’ll always learn from them! Thanks for your input!

Hi Jan, mine was 13 Social Websites to Ditch in 2013 to Save Time, it got reposted on another “big” site and had 102 comments. It was fun to write and it was just coming from own experiences of what was wasting time and why with stats. I know many others feel overwhelmed with being on so many places online to promote their blogs or websites. I’m working on another tomorrow that may be my new fav.
I can see why you picked yours. It was a great title too! Your image here reminds me of Richard Simmons – LOL.

Ahh busy bee! Keep me informed about the grand opening including read carpets, champagne & caviar!
Being features / quoted / reposted by one of the big cahuna’s in the blogosphere is an awesome way to get exposure for yourslf and your site(s). I never really understood though how you manage to keep up with so many sites? Richard Simmons? Uhm now that you have mentioned, yes! Sure looks like him!

Wow! This is awesome Jan! If I had to pick a fav post from my blogs, I couldn’t because they are all my favorites. Sounds a lil conceited? Maybe, but I am my biggest fan
BTW, I really like your favorite post as well and how true it is!

Bren,
I like what you said there, “They are all my favorites”. That shows to me you fully back – up what you write – every time. “I am my biggest fan”. That was an eye opener for me. It should be like that. Everybody should be their own biggest fan!

I have visited your post: “Your social network profile is like a resume“ and it was indeed great. I love the topic. Mentioning the duckface in the profile pic, that’s a strike to me lol.
A woman doing a duckface is much better than with men.
Hi Melly,
I am glad you liked the article and the duckface remark, lol. You would be surprised if you knew what kind of information (or mis – information) people write in their profiles. I believe a duckface doesn’t look good on men or woman though…
Thanks for sharing your input!

I don’t really have a favorite so far since I just started blogging. But like I said before, I have been blogging in livejournal for 8 years & that was friends only and it was a lot FUN!!!
However today I blog in public but it’s quite different from live journal coz that was more personal, sharing my day-to-day life. It’s more like a diary. And I wasn’t focusing so much on how to be a better affiliate marketer, how to manage my SEO, and how to convert my traffic into sales; it was mainly just pure fun connecting the world.
Predominantly speaking, the best thing I like about blogging is the interaction with all kinds of people around the world. With or without compensation I just love doing it, to me this isn’t work at all coz I’m having so much fun. It’s quite very rewarding.

Hi Angela!
Thanks for your input!
Interacting with people is fun. Blogging is too and if you combine them both it’s a blast. I know if you are blogging to make an income there is more pressure on when to post what you write, what to write and so forth.
I started out blogging for fun and I still am. Just the way I like it.

Hello Jan, Interesting post for sure, I’ts kind of hard to say I have one favorite considering there more then one, but I would have to say,
“How Do Bloggers Start Their Day? Hey You, Wake Up” is probably a good start because I enjoyed how everyone told me how they start out each day.
Not to mention I got a great amount of comments on this post which was good.
Thanks so much for a great write-up as always a pleasure my friend.

Hi Rob!
I see you’re a people person. Good! Interaction and getting know your readers must be one of the more important reasons you are blogging – your why!
That and helping out people, I noticed. Those are great reasons to blog, Rob. And it gives a lot of satisfaction doing it. Great!

You bet Jan, I love helping others when they have problems and are just looking for a helping hand.
Have a great weekend my friend.

My undisputed number 1 post is going to be the one I did back in 2010 on link building. It took me a long time to write and all the content on there is now out of date but it earned me a bit of a name in the SEO community and even earned me a link from seomoz!
Hi Janelle,
Earning a name in a niche is also a good reason to write great articles and good content. Funny to hear that in a niche with so many people participating ONE post can stand out so much!
Jan recently posted: What is YOUR favorite post and what does that say about YOU
Good question, but I am not really sure exactly what my favorite is. I used to be certain but now, not so much. I need to think about it a bit. Maybe one of the posts on the about me page.
Hmm…you stumped me on this one.
It took me some good thinking, Jack. After all we’re trying to write what others like most of the time. We have to like it ourselves too, I think or else we end up writing stuff we don’t like and that gets boring quickly…
Hey Jan,
Now you want me to recall all the posts I’ve written?
Well, I don’t remember all the posts and all instructions in ‘em either. But when I read your question, my mind got me thinking about one post.
“How to Install Disqus Comment Platform on Blogger”
I’ve really enjoyed writing it, explaining all the instructions and adding screenshots
If I go through all the posts, may be I’ll come up with another. But I don’t need to.
“WHY” is indeed a GOOD question to waste my time thinking as it has no exact answer as answers may change overtime Jan
lol… Generally it starts with helping folks via my own online space, but now it’s even more. Like you have said, I feel much better when I see more pageviews, recommendations and interactions for my content. But it’s not our absolute why, but a motivator, isn’t it?
Cheers…

Hi Mayura,
I know, it’s the everlasting question. Why, why, why. But that simple question leads often to the most awesome discoveries. It’s good to be curious!
I like the walk-through’s you give on your blog. They are easy to follow and the print screens help a lot.
It’s hard to name just one favorite post, I know and it also depends on what you are looking for in response. There can be a lot of reasons…
Each post is a personal creation, so I’d have to say they’re all favourites.
Some, of course, get more response than others. Good feedback is always exciting to receive! The first chapter from my “Adventures in Dogsitting” series has done well; possibly because it’s also part of a writers’ blog hop. I enjoyed your favourite post too, Jan, as I do all of your posts. Cheers!

Thanks, Debbie.
You have come a long way. When I’m reading your blog, I can sense that the posts are personal and from ‘the life’. You write them as you know them and that’s a personal style I like. Telling a story – writing – is a hard thing to do!
JanBierens recently posted: I want my Google Data Backup. Gimme!
Thanks, Jan.
I do enjoy telling a stories. Writing is an emotional experience for me. Always has been.
My favourite posts are those that make me laugh from sentence one to the last. I like to think that they make everyone else laugh too because the jokes are objectively funny, of course.
That’s a very valid reason.
Writing should be fun and I can not picture you smoking a pipe, drinking a glass of red wine over a first edition of some Freudian literature, being all sad… I love to read fun blogs. Actually I like to read all sorts of blogs.
